New kids on the block

21 July 2008
MARCO Trust moved to a fabulous new venue in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden in June 2008. As the new kids on the block, it celebrated with a Block Party for all its friends and supporters, and to meet its new neighbours.

MARCO Trust celebrates its new venueThe “block” theme unleashed a wealth of creative responses from the artists who contributed. This included paintings, jewellery, a video piece of dancers behind a glass block wall called “see thru blocks”, a sculpture of giant Cuisenaire rods, and a Perspex box full of chocolate called “choc-a-block”. The group AK Samba also played and there was a sizzling salsa performance by Cuban Groove.

MARCO Trust (Movement, Art, Rhythm and Creative Opportunities) provides a centre for the arts and arts therapies to all sectors of the community. It’s for kids and youth as well as adults.

It also offers arts therapy programmes for special groups such as disabled adults and people with chronic illness, and individual arts therapy for children and adults. In addition, it runs creativity courses for corporates and professional teams, and professional development in the arts therapies.

MARCO Trust opened in 2005 in New North Road, Auckland and has now moved to the quiet, leafy but still central Edwin Street in Mt Eden. It has a large wooden-floored studio, a sunny, carpeted upstairs studio and therapy rooms. All are available for community hire.
