Profiles of creative spaces

26 June 2008
Auckland creative space MARCO Trust moved to a new venue in June. As the new kids on the block, they celebrated with a Block Party for all their friends and supporters, and to meet their new neighbours.

MARCO Trust celebrates move to new premises in Mt Eden, Auckland The “block” theme unleashed a wealth of creative responses from the artists who contributed. This included paintings, jewellery, a video piece of dancers behind a glass block wall called “see thru blocks”, a sculpture of giant Cuisenaire rods, and a Perspex box full of chocolate called “choc-a-block”. The group AK Samba also played and there was a sizzling salsa performance by Cuban Groove.

Giant Cuisenaire rodsMARCO (Movement, Art, Rhythm and Creative Opportunities) Trust provides a centre for the arts and arts therapies to all sectors of the community. It’s for kids and youth as well as adults.

We have classes and programmes in all the arts disciplines. We also offer arts therapy programmes for special groups such as disabled adults and people with chronic illness, and individual arts therapy for children and adults. In addition, we run creativity courses for corporates and professional teams and professional development in the arts therapies.

MARCO Trust opened in 2005 in New North Road, Auckland and has now moved to the quiet, leafy but still central Edwin Street in Mt Eden. We have a fabulous, large wooden-floored studio and a lovely, sunny and carpeted upstairs studio. We also have therapy rooms. All are available for community hire.
