Book now for Arts Access Aotearoa’s workshops

30 January 2009
Arts Access Aotearoa will present three professional development workshops in Auckland on 27 and 28 February, aimed at people who work with marginalised artists in the Auckland and Northland regions.

To be held at the Corban Estate Arts Centre, these three-hour workshops have been made possible with funding from ASB Community Trust and Auckland City Council. Spaces in each workshop are limited to 25, and interested individuals and organisations are urged to book now.

The workshops are free to staff and volunteers working in creative spaces. This includes anyone working with an organisation to provide artistic opportunities for marginalised people (e.g. people with disabilities, refugees, disadvantaged youth, the elderly, mental health users). The professional arts sector is welcome to attend these workshops but there will be a small cost of $15, payable in cash on the day.

“These workshops will provide useful resources and skills relevant to those who work with marginalised and community artists,” says Marianne Taylor, Executive Director of Arts Access Aotearoa. “They are also an opportunity for people in the sector to get together and network.”

Arts Access Aotearoa is working in partnership with Artists Alliance, Vicki Allpress-Hill and Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design to present the three-hour workshops.

Workshop topics

The topics are:
•    Copyright law and its application to community arts, facilitated by Maggie Gresson (Artists Alliance) and David McLaughlin (legal expert), 1.30pm–4.30pm, Friday 27 February
•    Using the web to develop your community and market the arts, facilitated by Auckland internet arts marketing guru Vicki Allpress-Hill, 9.30am–12.30pm, Saturday 28 February
•    Evaluating an arts project, facilitated by Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, 1.30pm–4.30pm Saturday 28 February.

Resource kits will be distributed at the  workshops and will also be available on request after the workshops.

Arts Access Aotearoa will also be running similar workshops in Northland later in 2009.

“We would like to organise workshops in other centres, tailored to their particular needs,”  Marianne says. “However, we can only do this if we secure funding to run them.”

The deadline for booking a space is 5pm Tuesday 24 February. For more information and to make a booking, please contact Laura Armstrong (E: T: 04 802 4349).
