IHC Telecom Art Awards 2010 call for entries

17 May 2010
Entries to this year’s IHC Telecom Art Awards, the major showcase of work by artists with intellectual disabilities, close on 2 July. They are open to all New Zealanders with an intellectual disability, whether or not they use IHC services.

Established in 2004, the IHC Telecom Art Awards encourage and recognise the creativity of New Zealanders with an intellectual disability. Last year’s awards attracted entries from more than 400 people.

All entries must be received by 4pm on 2 July 2010 (and not received before 4 June). Regional art exhibitions will be held in Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch during July and August. Members of the public will be able to view the artworks at SANDZ Gallery, Hamilton; Art Studio, Alpha Street, Wellington; and the COCA Gallery, Christchurch.

This year’s judges include Head of WORLD fashion house Denise L'Estrange-Corbet, artists Otis Frizzell and Sue Upritchard, and Saatchi Design Worldwide creative director Blake Enting. Up to ten finalists from each region will be selected and they will be notified by late July. The 30 finalists’ artworks will then feature at St James Theatre Gallery in Wellington from 14 to 21 September 2010.

The awards will be presented at a function in Wellington on 21 September 2010. The winner receives $5000; second prize winner receives $2000; and two third-place equal prize winners receive $1000 each. The prize for the People’s Choice Award has yet to be confirmed.

The 30 finalists’ artworks will be available to view online in late August.
