Thirteenth Pablos Art Auction in Wellington

5 November 2008
Pablos Art Auction, to be held in Wellington on Tuesday 25 November, is a chance for the public to bid on 100 artworks donated by Pablos' artists and well-known New Zealand artists such as Dick Frizzell, Raewyn Atkinson, Harry Watson and Nigel Brown.

People make their silent auction bids at the 2007 Pablos Art AuctionThis year’s auction will be Pablos’ thirteenth – and the eighth organised by Pablos Manager Fiona Elwood. To be held in Shed 11 on the waterfront, it will include three-piece band La Dolce Vita, finger food and drink, and the chance to contribute to the running costs of Pablos by buying a $20 entry ticket and bidding on the donated artworks.

“This is our major fundraising activity for the year and we hope to raise at least $50,000, which represents 20 per cent of our annual income,” Fiona says.

“However,  It’s not just about making money. It’s a chance for Pablos to share what we do with the wider community and for our artists to see their work displayed alongside well-known New Zealand artists.

“Wellingtonians always look forward to this event and there’s a lovely sense of community. They also get to bid on art they like and feel they are contributing to the continued success of Pablos.”

The 100 works will be auctioned during the evening. Approximately 40 of the works will be part of a silent auction and the remaining 60 will be auctioned by Ian Paterson.

“I’m always heartened by the response I get from artists throughout New Zealand when I ask if they would like to donate work for this event,” Fiona says.
