Wellington City Council Arts Panui funding opportunities: Creative Communities and cultural funding

The Creative Communities Local Funding Scheme is now open for applications, which must reach us by 5.00pm, 31 August 2010. This round is for projects starting after 15 September.
It supports local communities to create and present opportunities for arts participation. Individuals or groups can apply.

Our Cultural Grants pool is also open. Applications must be received by 5.00pm, 30 July.
These grants strengthen partnerships with arts organisations, festival groups and institutions. Any group can apply, so long as you're legally constituted (i.e. a trust or incorporated society), or sit under the umbrella of an organisation meeting this description.

The Mental Health Foundation grants

The Mental Health Foundation is seeking applications for the 2010 New Zealand Mental Health Media Grants. Proposals close 24 September 2010.

Two grants of up to $12,000 each are available to applicants who have a journalism or creative project that focuses on mental health and wellbeing and helps reduce stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.

St Joans Trust applications

Applications to the St Joans Trust are now open with a closing date of 15 September 2010. If you are a registered charity promoting the wellbeing of older people, you are invited to complete an application for funding assistance. One funding round for Waitakere City’s Creative Communities Scheme

Waitakere City Council is calling for applications to its Creative Communities Scheme, available for community-based arts activity. Governance changes and the new Auckland Council mean there will be only one funding round this year, with applications closing at 5pm on Friday 16 July, 2010. Anyone wishing to apply for a project starting from September 2010 through to July 2011 should apply to this round.

Creative Communities Scheme: arts at a local level

This scheme is a partnership between Creative New Zealand and the 74 local authorities throughout New Zealand. It aims to increase participation in the arts at a local level, and increase the range and diversity of arts available to communities. Local decision-making is the key to the scheme and applications are considered by local assessment committees. All New Zealanders are eligible to apply. ASB Community Trust

ASB Community Trust makes grants to not-for-profit community groups in Auckland and Northland. Using funds from the sale of its shareholding in the Auckland Savings Bank, the Trust has granted more than $675m since it was formed in 1988. Any incorporated or charitable trust in Auckland and Northland can apply for funds, provided they are a not-for-profit organisation. For more details about applying, visit the Trust’s website.

Auckland funding directory

The Funding Directory Auckland Region 2009/2010 provides listings of sources for community, the arts, health, social services, education, sport and schools. It also has separate listings for Auckland City, Franklin, Manukau, North Shore, Papakura, Rodney and Waitakere. The directory costs $30 (plus $2.50 for postage. Arts Waikato

This community arts trust, based in Hamilton, supports non-profit arts groups and the creative sector with management, funding, planning, marketing advice, advocacy and networking. It offers scholarships for professional development in the arts and covers ten local authority areas in the Greater Waikato region. BreakOut is a searchable database of 2200 awards, scholarships and grants for artists, students, researchers, sports people and those wanting professional development opportunities. Located on the Funding Information Service website, the database will give you the best matches to suit your needs, along with closing dates, application requirements and contact details.

You have to pay a fee or annual subscription to access this database from the Funding Information Service website. However, the good news is that every region has public libraries or other organisations where you can use BreakOut free of charge. Click here to view the locations.
