Interwoven: a forum for community arts

The Auckland Creative Spaces Network, the Australia New Zealand Art Therapy Association and New Zealand Creative Therapies Association will co-host Interwoven, a conference about arts for health in the community. The Auckland CSN will host a forum alongside the conference, which will discuss pathways to inclusion and what that means for creative spaces. It’s open to all creative spaces and practitioners in New Zealand. Interwoven will be held at  Whitecliffe College of Arts, Parnell, Auckland on  25 to 26 September 2010. Eventfinder to promote your events

The Ministry of Culture and Heritage’s events site, NZLive.com, has merged with Eventfinder to create one national events webite. By listing your events and activities for free on Eventfinder, you will also be promoted on a range of other sites, including Yahoo!Xtra, Stuff, MSN, NZ Herald, Jasons, AA Travel, newzealand.com and NZ Museums. Eventfinder is a free service.

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum’s resource kit

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum has produced a resource kit aimed at organisations working witrh refugee-background communities. Called Strong Families Strong children, it includes a DVD of a community drama, and a discussion and training booklet. For more information email or download the order form here.

Creativity at The Learning Connexion

The Learning Connexion is an independent art school based in Hutt City. It’s been offering courses in art and creativity since 1988 and is New Zealand’s largest fine arts provider. Courses are offered onsite at its campus and throughout New Zealand, and internationally through its study-from-home option. The Learning Connexion offers university level, NZQA approved courses. The key requirement is commitment. It’s not necessary to have “talent”, art experience or prior qualifications. The emphasis is on the creative process and its goal is for everyone to be successful. There are no written examinations. Students are assessed on the basis of their creative work. A wide range of courses are offered, including drawing, painting, jewellery, printmaking, film and animation, computer graphics, design and illustration, bronze casting, stone sculpture and ceramics. Casual students are welcome to participate in weekend and evening courses.

The Learning Connexion supports New Zealand’s Deaf community, and welcomes Deaf and hearing-impaired individuals. Graduate diploma in not-for-profit management

Unitec NZ is offering a graduate diploma in not-for-profit management in Christchurch. This part-time programme is designed for managers, co-ordinators, team leaders, volunteers and board members of not-for-profit organisations. It helps managers and their organisations be more effective and addresses the complexity of working in this particular sector. Courses are in short blocks of two or three days in Christchurch.  You can choose how many courses you take each year. Scholarships to assist with fees are available.

Community noticeboards

Auckland City Council has two community noticeboards that are free to use for non-profit community groups and organisations wishing to advertise their events or services. There are noticeboard sites available across Auckland city where you can place a billboard to advertise a community service or event that deliver benefits to Auckland city residents. The community noticeboards are in high demand and community groups need to book a space well in advance by downloading and filling out the appropriate form on its website.

There is also a televised community noticeboard available on Triangle TV.

Free listings in Auckland City

Auckland City Council offers free listings on the event pages of its website and in City Scene, its publication of council news delivered weekly to households in the city. To have your event listed, you need to complete a form with your event details. You can either do this online or download a form, fill it out and send to Auckland City Council by post or fax.
