Interacting Theatre film and drama courses

Interacting Theatre runs film and drama courses for young people with a disability at Nathan Homestead in Manurewa. The film-making workshop and the drama workshop both run for 10 weeks from Thursday 2 February to Thursday 5 April 2012. Classes cost $15 per person per class. Free event management training

Two separate training sessions in event management are being offered by the Upper Hutt City Council on Wednesday 8 November 2011 and either Wednesday 9 November or Saturday 12 November 2011 depending on feedback. This is on a ‘first in, first served’ basis and sessions are free of charge. The training takes approximately three hours, with ideally between 10 and 16 participants per session. This is a workshop for organisers of community recreation programmes and events. Learn how to organise your programme and event including:
• designing programmes/events to suit your target market/community
• budgets and funding
• marketing and communication
• trouble-shooting tips
• effective evaluations.

Farsite Gallery: call for artists

StarJam

StarJam offers workshops in dance and singing, as well as various performance programmes for young people with disabilities aged from six to 25 years. Community group support

Auckland Council provides various forms of support to not-for-profit community groups to sustain or enhance their work. The types of support provided include various forms of training and advice, funding support, subsidised accommodation, community newsletters and noticeboards, community advisory services, child and youth services, projects to improve health, safety and wellbeing, and information centres and citizens advice bureau. Free listings in Auckland

Auckland Council offers free listings on the event pages of its website. To have your event listed, you need to complete a form with your event details. You can do this online HERE. Auckland Council puts out a monthly publication, OurAuckland, for information about Auckland Council news, activities and events. You can get copies online or in hardcopy. Open Door

This is a community-based television programme funded by NZ On Air and broadcast on TV3. Groups or individuals can apply to have a documentary programme made about an issue that involves or concerns them. For more information and to apply online go to the Open Door website.

Triangle TV

Triangle TV offers a community noticeboard to non-profit community groups working in the Auckland Council area. It can be used to promote your event, service or organisation. Notices are provided free of charge by funding from the Auckland Council. Availability is on a first-come first-served basis. Triangle Television is New Zealand's first non-commercial, regional TV station and has been broadcasting to the Auckland region since August 1998. Free Artist Directory listing

All New Zealand artists are entitled to a free listing in the NZ Art Guild online artist directory. A free listing includes your name, art form and link to email.  Email your information and the category you would like to be listed under, e.g. painting, oil, landscape, etc. to the NZ Art Guild Administration Assistant, Tanya Dann ().

PACE: Pathways to Arts and Cultural Employment programme

The PACE programme is designed to enable job seekers to develop their careers in the arts and creative industries. The scheme operates through Work and Income and applicants must already be eligible for Work and Income assistance. If the programme is supported in your area, your Case Manager will refer you to the contracted provider. Resene Artist Gallery online

Resene has an online Artist Gallery on its website displaying artists’ work from all over New Zealand. This is a free opportunity to showcase your work. Resene pays for all costs involved in having your work online. All you have to do is apply and send them images of your work. CAN in Auckland

Eventfinder to promote your events

The Ministry of Culture and Heritage’s events site, NZLive.com, has merged with Eventfinder to create one national events webite. By listing your events and activities for free on Eventfinder, you will also be promoted on a range of other sites, including Yahoo!Xtra, Stuff, MSN, NZ Herald, Jasons, AA Travel, newzealand.com and NZ Museums. Eventfinder is a free service.

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum’s resource kit

ChangeMakers Refugee Forum has produced a resource kit aimed at organisations working witrh refugee-background communities. Called Strong Families Strong children, it includes a DVD of a community drama, and a discussion and training booklet. For more information email or download the order form here.

Creativity at The Learning Connexion

The Learning Connexion is an independent art school based in Hutt City. It’s been offering courses in art and creativity since 1988 and is New Zealand’s largest fine arts provider. Courses are offered onsite at its campus and throughout New Zealand, and internationally through its study-from-home option. The Learning Connexion offers university level, NZQA approved courses. The key requirement is commitment. It’s not necessary to have “talent”, art experience or prior qualifications. The emphasis is on the creative process and its goal is for everyone to be successful. There are no written examinations. Students are assessed on the basis of their creative work. A wide range of courses are offered, including drawing, painting, jewellery, printmaking, film and animation, computer graphics, design and illustration, bronze casting, stone sculpture and ceramics. Casual students are welcome to participate in weekend and evening courses.

The Learning Connexion supports New Zealand’s Deaf community, and welcomes Deaf and hearing-impaired individuals. Graduate diploma in not-for-profit management

Unitec NZ is offering a graduate diploma in not-for-profit management in Christchurch. This part-time programme is designed for managers, co-ordinators, team leaders, volunteers and board members of not-for-profit organisations. It helps managers and their organisations be more effective and addresses the complexity of working in this particular sector. Courses are in short blocks of two or three days in Christchurch.  You can choose how many courses you take each year. Scholarships to assist with fees are available.
